Art Driven Modern Home Interior Design By Nyla Free Designs
We are thrilled to finally share this project with you! We began with furnishing this modern home several years ago after our clients moved from a more traditional style house. With their love for mid century and classic furniture we set out to create a warm and inviting space that spoke to our clients love of art and collectibles as well as creating a relaxed family home.
This light filled, open concept living/dining room connects the indoors and out with it's wall to wall windows.
A Dulcie Foo Fat oil painting, Roseroot on Powderface Ridge - 2013, takes centre stage behind the Barcelona chairs in grey leather, accompanied by studies by Carl Rungius to the left.
It's all in the details. Thoughtful collectables and special artifacts are displayed throughout the home, each piece with its own story. Etageres flank "Cover" by Sabine Lecorre-Moore.
David Burdeny (via Herringer Kiss Gallery), Sweepers, West Lake, Hangzhou, China, 2011 hangs over a custom sideboard from Hardware Interiors, hand painted by Murray Duncan with meaningful words personally selected by our client. A Martha Sturdy tray sits atop a mahogany dining table surrounded by chocolate leather chairs.
The kitchen was our most recent renovation project. Keeping with the already functional layout we changed cabinetry, counters, tile and lighting to align with the feel of the rest of the main floor.
The backsplash is handmade 3-dimensional terracotta tile creating a wow factor, artistic wall behind the cooktop.
In the stairwell up hangs a tapestry based on a William Kurelek painting. In the stairwell down is a Dorothy Knowles landscape. A turkish area carpet fills the space moving from dining room to kitchen marrying well with the classic Saarinen table and Bertoia chairs in the eating area.
The family room has a casual sophistication with a mix of modern and traditional.
Grasscloth wallpaper fills the walls of the master bedroom with contrasting copper drapery and hand painted metallic pottery lamps by Lesley Anton. Another Dulcie Foo Fat painting hangs above the bed accompanied by a Helen Mackie block print to the right.
The bedroom is the perfect oasis of warmth and texture and once again embraces the outside.
This home has a welcoming and comfortable feel amongst the modernity and clean lines of it's structure. The inspiration and collaboration with our client in bringing this space to life was truly a wonderful experience.
