Elbow Park Modern Powder Room Reveal

When we embark on the interior design of a home, we look at each individual room as a separate entity. Each with it's own personality, however still maintaining a strong sense of cohesion within the home as you transition from one space to the next. We are careful not to repeat finishes and materials unless it connects to an adjacent space and is necessary in the overall design.

The best compliment we could hear as designers is the recognition of a positive feeling a home gives as you walk through. When the subtleties of design details are such that you can't pinpoint why a space, or home, feels so good, we know we've done our job well. When you're able to walk into a space and have a unexplained flow from room to room, the design is a success. When small details make themselves known organically, simply and not all at once, your eye wonders through the space noticing each detail in a thoughtful way. And when we have a client that trusts us implicitly with all of these decisions, details and layers, that's where the magic happens.

In the powder room of our Elbow Park Modern project (for more follow the hashtag #nfdielbowparkmodern on Instagram) We created contrast with the black stained vanity, also extending as a vertical wall detail to the right of the backsplash. The matte black fixtures from Jason Wu Brizo collection, complimented by the stone sink, offer a connection and cohesion within the space. The space itself is wider than a typical powder room so the scale of the materials and fixtures were important. With a 30" wide sink and slightly oversized pendants, the size of the mirror was a detail we wanted to be sure of in an effort to connect with the sink and pendants.

Above left: We cut craft paper to confirm the size prior to ordering a custom mirror.

Above: The pendants were a splurge item. With their polished brass & white globes, they add tension to an otherwise muted palette. The full height backsplash was an unexpected addition with it's subtle blush undertone. The perfect amount of softness to offset the warm black. Right: Finishing touches make a huge difference in any space. Thoughtful accessories are the perfect way to complete a room.
