Bathroom Trends from KBIS 2018
There was no shortage of innovation for bathroom products at KBIS. It's overwhelming to think of the possibilities and options that are available to the consumer which is why an interior designer does help to provide insight into what's available and the knowledge of how best to use it. While we have access to most, if not all product in Calgary, it's not always available to be seen in person. Having the opportunity to attend trade shows such as KBIS gives us the ability to learn about product and bring that knowledge and insight home to our client.
BLACK, BRASS and BLACK & BRASS
One of the questions we hear most often by clients during the selection process is "will it be out of style soon?" When a trend hits the market it typically spreads like wildfire. Some might say trendy and over saturated, others may think classic with longevity. While both thoughts can be right, time will tell as to which ones will stay the course. A prime example of this is black and brass. When they hit the stage they were the latest and greatest. Years, later they are stronger than ever and in my opinion, here to stay.
Not only were both black and brass represented by and large at KBIS, the introduction of mixing the two together was also in action. American Standard's Studio S collection offers a combination of finishes. While the mix won't be for everyone, it does help bridge the gap for those who are concerned about mixing metals within a space. It offers a less intimidating approach should you have black hardware and wish to add a brass mirror.
Black and brass aside, a hot off the press finish we saw at KBIS, introduced by Kohler, was Rose Gold!
STORAGE
I mean can you ever have enough??? What we saw at KBIS with respect to storage however was very specific. More of "a place for everything, and everything in it's place" approach. While 100% functional, the design aesthetic had me over the moon as far as being able to contain all of the everyday items a vanity is often responsible to house, in a very stylish way.
DXV's Modulus Collection affords a clean, modern look while not compromising on storage.
Robern's antique mirrored vanities were a show stopper inside and out.
Kohler offers fantastic in-house storage solutions with the Tailored Vanity collection for those hard to manage bathroom appliances such as hair dryers and curling irons.
SMART | INTELLIGENT TOILETS
In other words, toilets that provide an experience unlike any other when using the washroom. With a movement to paperless in other areas of our lives, why not take the same approach with a toilet? While essentially combining a bidet and toilet, the power of water and air eliminate the need for paper. Not to mention the heated seat, warm water temps and all around personal experience.

It's been interesting to share with clients so far about the new product coming out on the market and the way technology is shaping our in-home experiences more and more. I'm excitied to see how these new introductions will shape some of our selections in the coming year. Be sure to also check out my recap of Kitchen Trends from KBIS as well!
