Nyla Free Designs Office: Counter Selection
We're settling into our new office space and are loving just that, space! If you visited us at our old location we're sure you'll agree it's a welcome change.
They say making decisions for your own space is the toughest and I will agree wholeheartedly with this. Admittedly there was some agonizing and over analyzing, some back and forth and discussion over most of the selections as we wanted to get it perfect. Ultimately we are so happy, and as the office starts to take shape we are thrilled with how the office is coming together.
When choosing counters for our space there were many qualities we were looking for.
- Durable
- Low maintenance
- Will photograph well
- A product we would recommend to clients
- And of course, stylish!
We had worked with Cosentino on our Naramata project and really loved their low profile edges, large selection and overall appeal.
In taking into consideration the above requirements, Cosentino offered both Dekton, the product we chose for all our white counters, and Silestone the product we chose for our work surfaces, that checked off all the boxes.
Dekton Pros:
- Resistant to stains: Dekton is non-porous and does not contain resins meaning it is completely stain proof! Even the toughest stains like wine or marker can easily be removed. AND harsh chemicals such as bleach or cleaners won't harm Dekton!
- Highly scratch resistant: Dekton is the most scratch resistant solid surface on the market.
- Low maintenance: Dekton’s finish will last for the life of the product and never needs to be re-surfaced or re-finished.
- Stability: Dekton can be installed in thinner material over greater spans allowing for up to a 12-inch unsupported overhang.
- UV-Resistant: Highly resistant to UV light and will not fade over time.
Silestone Pros:
- Stain resistant: Silestone is a non-porous and highly resistant to staining caused by coffee, wine, lemon juice, makeup and many other everyday products.
- Impact resistant: Silestone's high impact resistance exceeds other similar products such as granite and solid surfaces.
- Scratch resistant: Quartz has a hardness of 7 in the Mohs hardness scale (diamond has 10).
