Little Girl's Woodland Wonderland Bedroom
It was evident right from our first meeting how excited our client was to have personalized designed spaces for each one of their children, specifically suited to their current loves and personality. When we begin an interior design project we love talking with our client and gathering a sense of direction, likes, dislikes, and inspirational jumping off points before diving in. This is especially true for children's bedrooms. Little humans tend to have a love for something in one way shape or form whether it be a sport, a colour, or a hobby and we had a clear understanding and direction for each child for our Varsity Estates project. This sweet little one loves animals, and particularly the kind that live in the forest. How fitting with our Calgary landscape having all of these creatures very nearby.
With this as our jumping off point, we found the perfect woodland mural from Anewall, appropriately called Oh Deer, to kick start the selection process and colour scheme. Above is the mood board we created for the space. White furniture offset with textured linens and a pale pink furry bean bag chair creates a soft palette against the graphic nature of the mural. We opted for a day bed approach based on the layout of the room, centering the bed on the mural wall leaving plenty of floor space to play. The day bed also provides a cosy spot to hang out and read. The whole family are avid readers (more on that in another post!) so it was important to incorporate these special areas throughout the home.
We added a ribbon banding detail to the blackout roman shades and the chandelier (previously selected by the builder) was the perfect combination of simplicity, function and interest. We also loved seeing how well her little dollhouse fit into the room!
A simple side table topped with a bunny shaped lamp couldn't be a more ideal pairing with our woodland theme. We are thrilled with seeing our vision evolve and a little girls dream of sleeping in a forest come to life.
