SNEAK PEEK: Mount Pleasant Bathroom Renovation
Bathroom overhaul. That's what this project is all about. We've been tasked to make this master bathroom better in it's entirety. The layout is awkward and non functional. The finishes are tired and dated. One of the pedestal sinks (yes, pedestal sinks in the ensuite!) is cracked almost in half which is the reason our clients have jumped on this much needed bathroom renovation.
With an every so slight nod to a craftsman vibe in the rest of the home our intent was to follow suit with warm finishes, simple lines, and a contrast in the colour palette. Walnut wood, elongated, beveled subway tile, mosaic hex and a terrazzo/concrete graphic tile is the direction we're headed. Swooooooon!
When planning a bathroom remodel the most critical element is to evaluate how you use the space. Some significant questions to ask prior to the renovation are:
Do you bathe or primarily shower?
What is your morning routine?
Do you use the bathroom at the same time as your significant other?
Is there enough room for two sinks?
Would you like a steam shower?
Is a separate water closet a preference?
Is there natural light and how does this affect the space?
Is the ability to move drains an issue?
How much storage is required?
In this case, there is an incredible amount of space allotted for the bathtub, and our clients don't bathe. We've adjusted the layout to accommodate what is most important to them and thankfully the space is a good size which affords us the opportunity to move the fixtures around.
Having inspiration images with respect to our clients vision for a makeover is always helpful. I'd love to say we can read minds however that's not quite in our repertoire, yet ;) Gaining perspective as to what our clients gravitate towards is essential in moving forward to create a space that is true them. We do however, love to infuse unexpected elements whether in design and/or materials because that's what we're here for! We wouldn't be doing our job if we didn't suggest the unexpected.
Here are a few images our clients provided to us in moving through to the finish and material selection stage of this project.
Next step is to meet with the contractor to review the space plan and get a further understanding of the renovation costs and finalizing all selections. Stay tuned for more!
