Property Brothers: Growing Boys, Grander House | Before & After
Our second collaboration with The Property Brothers began with a very busy site visit to a bungalow in a great Calgary neighbourhood. All involved were anxious to get their hands on this home and make it better for this fabulously lively family of five. While it had curb appeal with recent updates to the exterior, what we walked into was in dire need of an update. Today’s post focuses solely on the kitchen, living/dining as well as master bedroom and bathroom to follow :)
The kitchen plan BEFORE:
The old space had a ‘U’ shaped layout, disjointed cabinetry and a stand alone fridge. With ductwork poorly placed, this kitchen was closed off from the rest of the living area by creating awkward walls and a lack of flow. The cabinets were dark and dreary, the counters dated and the overall vibe was uninspiring, and lacked enthusiasm or connectivity. It was time this family had an update!
Here’s what the kitchen renovation consisted of:
Added a direct vent, high efficiency furnace allowing us to remove walls and create an open concept space with the living and dining areas.
Replaced existing tile flooring with white oak hardwood flooring.
Updated countertops, featuring a waterfall edge on the island.
Added a peninsula providing a functional counter space as well as seating.
Brightened space with two tone cabinetry for a fresh and modern palette.
Upgraded storage within space.
Updated kitchen sink and faucet.
Updated cabinet hardware with brass knobs and tab pulls.
Replaced dated backsplash with quartz slab, also integrated into the face of hood fan with veining detail flowing from one to the next.
Added functional lighting by way of brass pendants over the island as well as recessed lighting .
Upgraded appliances.
Included open shelves for a fresh and modern aesthetic.
The kitchen plan AFTER:
Wowza! What a difference!
So what do you think?? We’d love to know your thoughts on this transformation. Comment below!
You can watch the full Property Brothers Buying and Selling episode to see how it all unfolded. We couldn’t be more thrilled with how this kitchen turned out. Stay tuned for the reveal of the rest of the house.
