Lately Loving: Hanging Chairs & Tips for Installation
Hanging chairs have made their way into a few of our designs and we can't get enough of the playful vibe they bring to a space.
Imagine curling up with a book or magazine, and swinging your way into a day dreaming state. Sounds relaxing doesn’t it? Modern, traditional or whimsical, these classic chairs can find themselves fitting into many decor styles.
Consider the following before adding a hanging chair to your space:
You’ll need ample clearance around the chair to accommodate its swing.
Most chairs come with rope or chair, however not the mounting hardware, so you’ll need to figure this part out on your own.
The chair must be installed in a support beam or another structural support with a ceiling capacity of roughly 500lbs.
While it can feel daunting to sit in something hanging from the ceiling, most chairs hold between 200 - 300lbs!
Professional installation is recommended.
If you’re planning, or in the midst of, a new home build or renovation, details such as this are important to have in mind early on. When ceilings are open or framing stage is underway, this is the time to catch design details such as this in order to plan effectively.
Our process at Nyla Free Designs is to consider furniture early on in the project for this exact reason; some items require careful thought, extra room and/ or more attention due to the installation process. A hanging chair falls into this category. Each of the spaces shown here, had a plan early on, which ultimately makes for a smooth and successful installation.
