PROJECT REVEAL: Country House Master Bedroom
We are over the moon to be finally revealing our Country House project starting with one of my favourite rooms in the home. Actually, who am I kidding? I love them all for different reasons, so I apologize if I start each reveal post off with “this is my favourite!” We’ve been harbouring these photos for almost nine months, and for a very good reason.
Shortly after our photoshoot in April of 2018, we learnt that Canadian House & Home Magazine was interested in sharing the project with their readers. Now that the magazine is on newsstands, we’re so thrilled to finally share this project with you, starting with the master bedroom.
The design approach of the master suite was to create a European apartment feel. The space itself is not large, in fact I had a few unnecessary “3am awakenings” wondering if the foot of the bed would end up too close to the fireplace. Of course, I had nothing to worry about and it really is the perfect size.
The neutral colour scheme and layers of texture create a soft, calm environment. The muted tones of linen drapery with a hint of metallic sparkle, a limestone fireplace surround, a vintage washed flat weave area carpet and luxurious headboard fabric are all set against white walls and black windows to create a dramatic, yet relaxing master retreat.
The windows overlook a natural pond and the rolling hills of this particular area of rural Alberta. All quite picturesque and oh, so quiet.
The king size bed is flanked by two custom mirrored bedside tables with a wall panel detail behind the headboard. Hand blown glass pendants hang over each bedside table for additional lighting offering a jewel-like feel to the space. Relaxed linens, velvet pillows and a chunky knit throw provide a juxtaposition of texture with the bedding.
We all fell in love with a crushed velvet fabric and felt it was a ‘must have’ in the room. Because of it’s high price point we opted to use it on the headboard which required only a few yards. Paired with a french gray painted finish on the bed, it offers a feeling of ‘old meets new’.
The centre pendant was one of the few items brought over from the clients previous home and the master bedroom was a natural place for it to be repurposed.
The bedroom is away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the home and the perfect setting to rest and retreat at the end of each day. With a fireplace, serene setting and beautiful view, who would want to leave?
